About this supplement
What Is Choline + Inositol?
Choline and inositol are two nutrients the body uses to build cell membranes. Both get filed with the B vitamins without quite belonging there. Choline is essential: the body makes a little and has to take in the rest. Inositol is a sugar alcohol the body can build for itself and also gets from food.
How It Works in the Body
Choline has three jobs. It becomes phosphatidylcholine, the main phospholipid of cell membranes. It is the raw material for acetylcholine, the signal nerves use to speak to muscle. And part of it is converted to betaine, which hands methyl groups to other molecules.
Inositol is the structural piece of phosphatidylinositol, another membrane phospholipid. Enzymes clip fragments off it to make second messengers, the small molecules that carry a signal from the cell surface inward once a receptor has been triggered.
What It Supports
- Cell membranes: Both become phospholipids, the two-layer sheet every cell membrane is built from.
- Nerve signaling: Choline is the material the body uses to make acetylcholine, so it supports normal nerve function.
- Fat handling in the liver: Choline is required for the phosphatidylcholine that packages fat for export from the liver.
- Signals inside the cell: Inositol contributes to the messenger system cells use to pass a signal inward.
Who It May Suit
People who eat few eggs, or no animal foods at all: egg yolk and liver are the densest sources of choline, and intake tends to run lower without them. The capsule is cellulose, so it fits vegan eating.
Good To Know
Inositol here means myo-inositol, the form that dominates in the body. Talk with your healthcare provider before use, especially if you are pregnant or nursing, or if you take lithium, since inositol sits in the signaling pathway lithium acts on. Very large amounts of choline can leave a fishy body odor.

FAQ
Common questions
What are choline and inositol?
Choline is an essential nutrient. The body makes some but not enough, so the rest comes from food, mainly egg yolk, liver and soy. Inositol is a six-carbon sugar alcohol that the body can build for itself and also takes in from beans, grains and citrus.
How do they work in the body?
Both end up as phospholipids. Choline forms phosphatidylcholine, the main lipid of cell membranes, and is the starting material for the neurotransmitter acetylcholine. Inositol forms phosphatidylinositol, which enzymes cut into second messengers, the molecules that carry a signal from a receptor into the cell.
What is in this capsule?
Choline at 250 mg per serving and inositol at 250 mg per serving, matched in weight, with no other actives. The shell is hypromellose, a plant cellulose, and silicon dioxide and vegetable-source stearic acid are there as processing aids.
Who is it for?
Adults who eat few eggs, no liver and little soy, which is where most dietary choline comes from, and vegans in particular. It also suits anyone who would rather take these two together than as separate capsules on the same day.
What should I know before taking it?
Talk with your healthcare provider before use if you are pregnant or nursing, since choline needs are higher then and worth planning properly, or if you take lithium or medicine that acts on mood, because inositol sits in the signaling pathway lithium works through. Very large amounts of choline can produce a fishy body odor.
