About this supplement
What Is TUDCA?
TUDCA is tauroursodeoxycholic acid: a bile acid with the amino acid taurine joined to it. Bile acids are made in the liver from cholesterol, and this one is a minor member of the human bile acid pool. It is far more plentiful in bear bile, the traditional Chinese source.
How It Works in the Body
Bile acids are the body's own detergents. Each molecule has a water-loving side and a fat-loving side, so it can sit at the boundary between the two and break dietary fat into droplets small enough for enzymes to work on. Those droplets, called micelles, are how fat crosses the gut wall.
Bile acids also draw water after them into the bile ducts, and that osmotic pull is what keeps bile moving. The ursodeoxycholic backbone here is made by gut bacteria reworking a bile acid the liver made first; the taurine is joined on afterwards.
What It Supports
- Fat digestion: Bile acids emulsify dietary fat, so they support the normal digestion of fats.
- Fat-soluble vitamins: The same micelles carry vitamins A, D, E and K across the wall of the small intestine.
- Normal bile flow: Bile acids are the main osmotic driver behind bile, and support its normal flow.
- Water-friendly chemistry: Taurine on one end makes TUDCA one of the more water-soluble bile acids.
Who It May Suit
Suits people paying attention to how they handle dietary fat, and people eating a higher-fat pattern. It is one ingredient in a plant-based capsule, with rice flour alongside. Bile acids are bitter, which is why this comes capsuled.
Good To Know
Taurine conjugation keeps TUDCA ionized and soluble at the pH of the small intestine. Loose stools are the usual sign of more bile acid than the gut wants. Talk with your healthcare provider before use, especially if you are pregnant, take a bile acid medicine, or have a gallbladder or liver condition.

FAQ
Common questions
What is TUDCA?
A bile acid: tauroursodeoxycholic acid, which is ursodeoxycholic acid with taurine attached. The human bile acid pool contains a little of it. Bear bile contains much more, which is where traditional Chinese medicine drew it from; the supplement version is made rather than collected.
How does it work?
Bile acids behave like detergents. Each molecule carries a water-loving face and a fat-loving face, so it gathers dietary fat into micelles small enough for lipase to act on and for the gut wall to absorb. Bile acids also pull water into the bile ducts, which is what keeps bile moving.
What makes this form different?
It is the taurine-conjugated form, at 500 mg per serving, with nothing else added. Conjugation to taurine keeps the molecule charged and water-soluble along the length of the small intestine, where an unconjugated bile acid would be less so.
Who is it for?
Adults interested in how their body handles dietary fat, and people eating a higher-fat pattern. It is a single ingredient with no vitamins or botanicals alongside it. The capsule shell is plant-based, and rice flour is the only other material in it.
What should I know before taking it?
Talk with your healthcare provider before use, especially if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, take a bile acid medicine such as ursodiol, or have a gallbladder or liver condition, since a bile acid supplement acts in exactly that territory. Loose stools are the usual first sign of taking more than the gut wants.
