About this supplement
What Is Pantethine?
Pantethine is two molecules of pantetheine joined by a disulfide bond. Pantetheine, in turn, is vitamin B5 with cysteamine attached — a fragment the body assembles on its way to coenzyme A. So this is B5 delivered further along the path than pantothenic acid sits.
How It Works in the Body
Coenzyme A is the body's universal handle for acyl groups: the grip it takes on acetate, on fatty acids, on almost anything it means to move or rebuild. Cells assemble CoA from pantothenate, cysteine and ATP over five steps, and pantetheine joins that sequence partway along. The business end of the finished molecule is the same thiol group cysteamine brought with it.
What It Supports
- Energy metabolism: As part of coenzyme A, B5 plays a role in turning fat and carbohydrate into cellular fuel.
- Fatty acids: CoA carries the acyl groups the body uses to build and break down fats.
- Adrenal chemistry: CoA is required for the reactions that assemble steroid hormones.
- Cell membranes: Fatty acids handled on CoA go on to become membrane phospholipids.
Who It May Suit
Adults who prefer pantethine to plain pantothenic acid or calcium pantothenate. People building a routine from single nutrients. Note that this one is a softgel made with bovine gelatin, so it does not suit vegetarian or vegan diets.
Good To Know
Pantethine is the disulfide form of pantetheine and carries 300 mg per serving. Talk with your healthcare provider before use, especially if you are pregnant or take medication for blood lipids, and mention any B5 or B-complex already in your routine.

FAQ
Common questions
What is pantethine?
A sulfur-bearing form of vitamin B5. Two pantetheine molecules are linked through a disulfide bridge, and each pantetheine is pantothenic acid with cysteamine on the end. It occurs naturally as a fragment of coenzyme A, which is where the body is heading with it.
How does it work in the body?
It feeds coenzyme A. The disulfide is split, and pantetheine joins the assembly line partway along instead of at the beginning. CoA then does the heavy lifting of metabolism: carrying acetyl groups into the citric acid cycle and acyl groups through fatty acid chemistry.
How is this different from ordinary vitamin B5?
Most B5 supplements use calcium pantothenate, the simple salt. Pantethine is a later intermediate, already carrying the cysteamine group and the thiol that makes coenzyme A reactive. Each softgel supplies 300 mg per serving in a rice bran oil base.
Who is it for?
Adults who specifically want pantethine rather than pantothenic acid, and people assembling a routine one nutrient at a time. It is worth noting the softgel shell is bovine gelatin, so vegetarians and vegans will want a different form of B5.
What should I know before taking it?
Talk with your healthcare provider before use, especially if you are pregnant, take medication for blood lipids, or have a bleeding condition, since pantethine may affect platelet behavior. Mention the B5 in any multivitamin or B-complex you take, as it is widely included.
