What Is NADH With D-Ribose?

NADH is the reduced form of nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide, the coenzyme every cell builds out of vitamin B3. D-ribose is the five-carbon sugar sitting at the center of that same coenzyme, and of ATP. There is 10 mg of NADH and 200 mg of D-ribose per serving.

How It Works in the Body

NAD cycles between two forms. In the oxidized form it collects a hydride from fuel molecules. In its reduced form, as NADH, it delivers that cargo to the first complex of the mitochondrial electron transport chain, and the cell turns the resulting electron flow into ATP.

NADH also supplies reducing power that keeps tetrahydrobiopterin in working order; that cofactor is what tyrosine hydroxylase needs to build dopamine. D-ribose takes a different route. Cells phosphorylate it to ribose-5-phosphate and then to PRPP, the activated sugar that begins every nucleotide.
