About this supplement
What Is Beta-sitosterol?
Beta-sitosterol is a sterol plants build into their cell membranes. It occurs in vegetable oils, nuts, seeds and whole grains. It carries the same four-ring cholesterol backbone, with an extra ethyl group on the side chain. That small change is why the body handles the two so differently.
How It Works in the Body
Sterols travel with the fat in a meal. In the small intestine that fat is packaged into mixed micelles, tiny bile-salt droplets that ferry fat-soluble material to the gut wall. Plant sterols compete for room in those droplets with the sterols already there, from food and from bile. They themselves stay in the gut, so most of a serving carries on through. Esterifying them to fatty acids, as here, helps them dissolve into oil.
What It Supports
- Cholesterol: Plant sterol esters support cholesterol levels already within the normal range.
- Dietary fat: Sterols ride with the fats in a meal, so they do their work in the gut rather than the bloodstream.
- A full sterol spread: Campesterol and stigmasterol sit alongside beta-sitosterol, as the three occur together in plant oils.
- Omega-3 fats: A small amount of fish oil concentrate contributes EPA and DHA, the long-chain omega-3 fatty acids.
Who It May Suit
Sterol intake tracks vegetable oils, nuts, seeds and whole grains, so plant-light eating tends to run lower. This suits adults who want a concentrated source. The softgel is gelatin and the formula carries fish oil and soy lecithin, so it is neither vegetarian nor allergen-free.
Good To Know
A serving is two softgels: 1,000 mg of plant sterol esters, of which 400 mg is beta-sitosterol, with 120 mg of fish oil concentrate per serving. Talk with your healthcare provider before use if you take a cholesterol medicine or a blood thinner, or have a fish or soy allergy. Plant sterols travel with dietary fats and can carry fat-soluble vitamins out with them.

FAQ
Common questions
What is beta-sitosterol?
A plant sterol, one of the sterols plants build into their cell membranes. It carries the same four-ring cholesterol backbone with an ethyl group added to the side chain. Vegetable oils, nuts, seeds and whole grains are where it occurs in food; this formula concentrates it as sterol esters.
How does it work in the body?
Fat leaving the stomach is emulsified into mixed micelles, tiny bile-salt droplets that ferry fat-soluble material to the gut wall. Plant sterols compete for room in those droplets with the sterols already there. Plant sterols themselves stay in the gut, so most of a serving simply carries on through.
What is in the formula?
CardioAid-S plant sterol esters, which supply beta-sitosterol along with campesterol and stigmasterol, the sterols that occur together in plant oils. A small amount of natural fish oil concentrate rides with them. A serving is two softgels, carrying 1,000 mg of sterol esters with 120 mg of fish oil per serving.
Who is it for?
Adults whose eating is light on vegetable oils, nuts, seeds and whole grains, which is where sterols occur naturally. It is not a fit for vegetarian or vegan eating: the softgel is gelatin, and the formula contains fish oil and soy lecithin, which matters as well if you have a fish or soy allergy.
What should I know before taking it?
Talk with your healthcare provider before use if you take a cholesterol medicine or a blood thinner, since plant sterols travel with dietary fats and can carry fat-soluble vitamins out alongside them. People with the inherited condition sitosterolemia are advized to avoid plant sterol supplements altogether.
