NAC is a stable form of the amino acid L-cysteine. Cysteine is the limiting ingredient in glutathione synthesis, so NAC supports the glutathione system cells run inside themselves.

About this supplement
What Is N-Acetyl L-Cysteine?
Cysteine is the amino acid that carries sulfur, held in a thiol group: a sulfur atom with a hydrogen attached. That group is the reactive part, and free cysteine oxidizes readily because of it. Hanging an acetyl group on the nitrogen gives N-acetyl cysteine, a steadier molecule that holds up on the way through the gut.
How It Works in the Body
Glutathione is a tripeptide, glutamate and cysteine and glycine joined in that order, and cells rebuild it all day long. Cysteine is the part that runs short, so cysteine supply sets the pace of the whole assembly. NAC is a way to deliver it. Enzymes in the gut wall and liver take the acetyl group off, and plain cysteine is what the cell receives.
The thiol matters again afterward. Glutathione does its work by offering that sulfur-hydrogen to reactive molecules, which is the chemistry the whole system is built on.
What It Supports
- Glutathione synthesis: Cysteine is the limiting ingredient, and NAC is one way of supplying it.
- Antioxidant defense: Supports the glutathione system that cells run inside themselves.
- Sulfur amino acid pool: Cysteine is also the starting point the body uses to make taurine.
- Liver chemistry: Joining glutathione to a compound is one of the liver's routine ways of making it water-soluble.
Who It May Suit
People who would rather feed the body's own antioxidant machinery than take antioxidants ready-made from fruit and plants. It suits anyone who wants NAC by itself, with no mineral or botanical alongside. The capsule is plant cellulose with rice flour, so vegan and vegetarian eating are covered.
Good To Know
There is 600 mg of NAC per serving, and a serving is a single capsule. NAC has a faint sulfur smell, which is the thiol group and is normal. Talk with your healthcare provider before use if you take nitroglycerin or another nitrate, or a blood thinner, and if you are pregnant or nursing.

FAQ
Common questions
What is N-acetyl cysteine?
The amino acid cysteine with an acetyl group attached to its nitrogen. Cysteine on its own is awkward material: it oxidizes quickly and pairs off with itself. The acetyl group settles it down, and once the molecule is past the gut wall that group comes off and ordinary cysteine is left.
How does it work in the body?
Cells build glutathione from glutamate, cysteine and glycine, and cysteine is the one in shortest supply, which makes it the pace-setter. NAC delivers cysteine. The sulfur it carries is what glutathione uses afterward, handing a hydrogen atom to reactive molecules inside the cell.
What makes this one different?
It is NAC and nothing else, at 600 mg per serving in a single capsule, with rice flour, a cellulose shell and vegetable-source stearates as the only other ingredients. That 600 mg per serving is the derivative's own weight rather than a blend figure, so what a serving holds is unambiguous.
Who is it for?
Adults who would rather supply the raw material their own cells use to build glutathione than take an antioxidant ready-made, and who prefer one ingredient to a formula. Everything here is plant-based, from the hypromellose shell to the rice flour, so vegetarian and vegan eating are both covered.
What should I know before taking it?
Talk with your healthcare provider before use if you take nitroglycerin or another nitrate, or a blood thinner, since NAC can affect how readily blood clots. Mention it if you are pregnant or nursing. Some people notice mild stomach upset, and the faint sulfur smell is simply the thiol group.
