Glutathione is the cell's main internal antioxidant. It hands electrons to glutathione peroxidase and helps maintain vitamins C and E in their working forms.

About this supplement
What Is Glutathione?
A tripeptide: glutamate, cysteine and glycine joined in a short chain. Your cells build it themselves and hold a lot of it. This capsule pairs the reduced form with milk thistle seed extract and a little alpha lipoic acid, at 500 mg, 100 mg and 50 mg per serving.
How It Works in the Body
The working end is the thiol group, a sulfur-hydrogen pair on the cysteine. That sulfur hands over electrons, and two glutathione molecules join into a disulfide pair as it does. That pair is converted back by glutathione reductase, which draws reducing equivalents from NADPH. Glutathione is also the handle that glutathione S-transferases attach to fat-soluble compounds in the liver, making them water-soluble enough to leave the body.
What It Supports
- Antioxidant defenses: Glutathione hands electrons to glutathione peroxidase, the enzyme that deals with peroxides inside cells.
- Vitamins C and E: Glutathione helps maintain both vitamins in their reduced forms after they give up an electron.
- Liver conjugation: Glutathione S-transferases attach it to fat-soluble compounds so the liver can move them out.
- Milk thistle: Silymarin is a set of flavonolignans from the seed: silybin, silychristin, silydianin and taxifolin.
- Alpha lipoic acid: A small two-sulfur molecule at home in water and fat, and part of several mitochondrial enzyme complexes.
Who It May Suit
People who want glutathione itself rather than the cysteine precursors that feed its synthesis, and anyone who likes the pairing with milk thistle. The capsule is hypromellose and the stearate comes from a vegetable source, so it suits a vegetarian or vegan diet.
Good To Know
Much of any oral tripeptide is taken apart in the gut and rebuilt from its amino acids, which is ordinary peptide digestion. Talk with your provider before use if you react to ragweed, daisies or marigold, since milk thistle is in that plant family, or if you take warfarin, since silybin can slow how quickly the liver clears it.

FAQ
Common questions
What is it?
Glutathione is a tripeptide of glutamate, cysteine and glycine, and this capsule carries 500 mg of the reduced form per serving. Two companions come with it: milk thistle seed extract standardized for silymarin, and a small amount of alpha lipoic acid, both at smaller weights.
How does it work?
Everything turns on the sulfur. The cysteine thiol gives up electrons, which pairs two molecules into a disulfide, and glutathione reductase converts that pair back using NADPH. Separately, glutathione S-transferases hook glutathione onto fat-soluble compounds in the liver so they become water-soluble enough to leave.
What makes this formula different?
It is glutathione itself in the reduced form, not a precursor such as N-acetylcysteine and not a liposomal preparation. The two partners are chosen for the same chemistry: silymarin is a flavonolignan set from milk thistle seed, and alpha lipoic acid carries its own pair of sulfur atoms.
Who is it for?
People who would rather take the tripeptide than the amino acids that feed its synthesis, and anyone who wants milk thistle in the same capsule. The shell is hypromellose, a plant cellulose, and the stearate comes from a vegetable source, so it fits vegetarian and vegan diets.
What should I know before taking it?
Milk thistle sits in the daisy family, so talk with your provider before use if you react to ragweed, daisies, chrysanthemum or marigold. Ask as well if you take warfarin, because silybin can slow how quickly the liver clears it, and mention it before any planned surgery.
