About this supplement
What Is Rhodiola?
Rhodiola rosea is a succulent that grows in cold, high, rocky ground — the Arctic, the Alps, the mountains of central Asia. Cut the root and it smells faintly of roses, which is where rosea comes from. There is 500 mg of root extract per serving.
How It Works in the Body
Rhodiola is a traditional botanical, so the honest account is what the root is made of. Two marker groups define it. The rosavins — rosavin, rosin and rosarin — are cinnamyl glycosides found in this species and not in its relatives. Salidroside is the other, a simple phenol bound to a sugar.
The root also carries flavonoids, tannins and an aromatic oil. Extracts are standardized for both markers, because the ratio between them is what separates true Rhodiola rosea from the hundred or so other Rhodiola species.
What It Supports
- Everyday stress: Rhodiola is the classic adaptogen of the north, taken to support the body's response to everyday stress.
- Physical stamina: Nordic and Russian practice reached for the root before long work in the cold, and it is still taken to support physical stamina.
- Mental focus: Tradition puts it to work during demanding stretches, and it is taken to support mental focus.
- Plant phenolics: Salidroside and the rosavins belong to the phenolic family, the same broad class as the pigments in tea and berries.
Who It May Suit
It suits people with demanding weeks who want a traditional botanical rather than a stimulant. Rhodiola is not caffeine and does not behave like it. The capsule is plant-based, so it fits vegetarian and vegan eating.
Good To Know
Some people find Rhodiola activating, and the root has a dry, slightly bitter character. Talk with your healthcare provider before use if you take an antidepressant, blood pressure medication or a blood thinner, and if you are pregnant or nursing, since the root has not been characterized for that.

FAQ
Common questions
What is rhodiola?
A hardy succulent of the stonecrop family, also called golden root or arctic root. It grows slowly in thin soil at high latitude and altitude, and the part used is the thick underground rootstock, which has a rose-like scent when it is cut.
How is it used, and what is in the root?
This is a traditional herb rather than a nutrient with a defined job in human biochemistry. What can be said plainly is its make-up: rosavins and salidroside as the marker compounds, alongside flavonoids, tannins and a volatile oil. Scandinavian and Russian herbal practice has used the root for centuries.
What makes this extract different?
It is a concentrated root extract, 500 mg per serving, standardized for both marker groups rather than one. Powdered whole root and single-marker extracts are the alternatives. Rhodiola rosea specifically is the species tradition names, and other members of the genus lack the rosavins entirely.
Who is it for?
Adults with full schedules who prefer a traditional botanical to a stimulant, and anyone assembling a herbal routine rather than a nutrient one. It carries no caffeine. The capsule is plant-based, so it works for vegetarian and vegan eating.
What should I know before taking it?
Talk with your healthcare provider before use if you take an antidepressant, a blood thinner or medication for blood pressure or the thyroid. Mention it also if you are pregnant or nursing, or if you have bipolar disorder, since activating botanicals are generally avoided in that situation.
