About this supplement
What Is American Ginseng?
American ginseng is a shade-loving forest plant of the eastern United States and southern Canada, and a different species from the Asian one: Panax quinquefolius, not Panax ginseng. The root is the part used. It grows slowly, spending several years in the ground before it is worth digging.
How It Works in the Body
Ginseng's chemistry lives in its saponins, known as ginsenosides, sugar-bearing molecules built on a four-ring core. The American profile leans heavily on the one called Rb1, and it lacks a couple of the ginsenosides Asian roots carry, which is how a laboratory tells the two apart. Gut bacteria clip the sugars off before much is absorbed, so the microbiome does part of the work. Chinese practice has long classed this species as the cooling ginseng and the Asian one as warming.
What It Supports
- A steady response to everyday demands: Supports the body's normal handling of a long or busy stretch.
- Normal immune function: Supports routine immune activity, one of the root's traditional uses.
- Everyday stamina: Supports the ordinary staying power the root has been taken for.
- Ginsenoside content: The extract concentrates the root's own saponins, Rb1 chief among them.
Who It May Suit
People who like a traditional tonic herb to carry them through a demanding season, and anyone who finds Asian ginseng too warming for their taste. The capsule is plant cellulose, so it fits vegan and vegetarian eating.
Good To Know
This is a root extract at 1,000 mg per serving, carried in non-GMO maltodextrin, with ascorbyl palmitate alongside it. Talk with your healthcare provider before use, especially if you take warfarin or a medication for diabetes, since American ginseng can change how both behave.

FAQ
Common questions
What is American ginseng?
The root of Panax quinquefolius, a woodland perennial native to hardwood forests from Ontario down through the Appalachians. Wild populations are protected, so nearly all supply is farmed, much of it in Wisconsin under shade cloth. It is a true ginseng, unlike Siberian ginseng, which is a different plant.
How does it work?
Its characteristic compounds are ginsenosides, saponins with sugars attached to a steroid-like skeleton. Most are not absorbed whole; gut bacteria strip the sugars first, which means the same root can behave differently from one person to the next. The American species is dominated by the Rb1 type.
What makes this form different?
This is an extract of the root rather than ground whole root, at 1,000 mg per serving, in a base of non-GMO maltodextrin. Ascorbyl palmitate, a fat-soluble form of vitamin C, is the only other ingredient beyond the plant cellulose capsule itself.
Who is it for?
People who want a traditional tonic herb with a long record of use and who prefer a botanical to an isolated nutrient. It fits vegan and vegetarian eating. Anyone already taking Asian ginseng might pick one or the other rather than running both at once, since they overlap.
What should I know before taking it?
Talk with your healthcare provider before use if you take warfarin, a diabetes medication, or an antidepressant, because American ginseng can change how each of those behaves. Raise it as well if you are pregnant or nursing, or if you have surgery coming up.
