About this supplement
What Is Folic Acid?
Folic acid is the synthetic form of folate: the one added to flour and rice, and the one behind most published intake figures. It is fully oxidized and unusually stable, which is why it survives milling and baking. The folates in leafy greens and liver are a different shape.
How It Works in the Body
Folic acid is not the form that circulates in blood. In the gut wall and the liver, two enzyme steps convert it to tetrahydrofolate and then to 5-methyltetrahydrofolate, the reduced form the body carries. From there folate passes single carbon atoms to the reactions that build the bases of DNA and remake methionine. The cyanocobalamin alongside it works at that same handover, which is why the two are so often paired.
What It Supports
- Cell division: Folate is required to build the DNA bases that every dividing cell needs.
- Pregnancy: Folate supports normal neural tube development in early pregnancy.
- Red blood cells: Folate and B12 both play a role in normal red blood cell formation.
- Methylation: The methyl group folate carries feeds methionine and SAMe chemistry.
Who It May Suit
People who are pregnant or planning to be, when folate needs run higher. Adults whose meals are light on leafy greens, legumes and liver. Anyone who wants folate in the familiar fortification form, with a little B12 alongside it.
Good To Know
This tablet pairs folic acid with cyanocobalamin, a stable B12 the body converts into its coenzyme forms. Talk with your healthcare provider before use if you are pregnant, take methotrexate or an anti-seizure medication, or have low B12, since extra folate can mask it.

FAQ
Common questions
What is folic acid?
The manufactured form of vitamin B9. It is a pteridine ring joined to para-aminobenzoic acid and glutamate, fully oxidized, and stable enough to survive baking. Governments use it to fortify flour for that reason. Folate is the umbrella word covering it and the forms found in food.
How does the body use it?
It converts it first. Two enzyme steps in the gut wall and liver turn folic acid into tetrahydrofolate and then 5-methyltetrahydrofolate, which is what travels in blood. Folate then acts as a shuttle, carrying single carbon atoms to the enzymes that build DNA bases and remake methionine.
How does this compare with methylated folate?
Folic acid is synthetic and fully oxidized, so the body converts it before use. Methylfolate is supplied as 5-methyltetrahydrofolate, the form already circulating. They enter the same folate cycle at different points. This tablet holds 1,360 mcg DFE of folate per serving and 25 mcg of B12 per serving.
Who is it for?
Adults who want a straightforward folate with B12 alongside. People who are pregnant or planning a pregnancy, whose folate needs run higher. Anyone whose meals are short on greens, beans and liver, the foods that carry most dietary folate.
What should I know before taking it?
Talk with your healthcare provider before use if you are pregnant, take methotrexate or an anti-seizure medication, or know your B12 runs low, since folate can mask a B12 shortfall in blood work. Mention any prenatal or multivitamin you already take.
