About this supplement

What Is DIM?

DIM is short for 3,3'-diindolylmethane. Cruciferous vegetables hold a compound called glucobrassicin; chopping or chewing them releases indole-3-carbinol from it, and in stomach acid two of those molecules join to make DIM. This capsule supplies the finished compound at 200 mg per serving, paired with calcium D-glucarate and a little chlorophyllin.

How It Works in the Body

DIM is an indole — a two-ring structure with a nitrogen in it — and it is fat-soluble, which is why it is supplied as the finished compound rather than as the vegetable precursor.

Calcium D-glucarate is different chemistry: the calcium salt of D-glucaric acid, a sugar acid. Its close relative glucuronic acid is what the liver attaches to compounds during phase-II conjugation, the step that makes them water-soluble enough to leave the body. Sodium copper chlorophyllin is chlorophyll with its magnesium swapped for copper, which makes the pigment water-soluble.

What It Supports

  • Cruciferous chemistry: DIM is the compound cruciferous vegetables form once chopped or chewed, supplied here directly at 200 mg per serving.
  • Sugar-acid conjugation: D-glucarate belongs to the sugar-acid family of glucuronic acid, and it supports normal phase-II conjugation.
  • Calcium: There is 12 mg of calcium per serving, arriving as the counter-ion of the glucarate salt.
  • Chlorophyllin: A water-soluble form of the pigment that makes plants green, included at 20 mg per serving.

Who It May Suit

People who eat few cruciferous vegetables and would rather have that chemistry in a capsule, and people who prefer a short ingredient list. The capsule is hypromellose and everything in it is plant-derived or mineral, so it fits vegetarian and vegan eating.

Good To Know

DIM is fat-soluble, so food with some fat in it helps absorption. It can also tint urine a darker yellow, which is harmless. Talk with your healthcare provider before use, especially if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, or if you take any prescription medicine, since conjugation in the liver is one route that clears medicines.

FAQ

Common questions

What is DIM?

DIM is 3,3'-diindolylmethane. Cruciferous vegetables such as broccoli and cabbage hold glucobrassicin; chopping or chewing them releases indole-3-carbinol, and in stomach acid two of those molecules join into one. The capsule supplies the finished compound rather than the precursor, at 200 mg per serving.

How do the ingredients work?

DIM is a fat-soluble indole, so it travels with lipids. Calcium D-glucarate is the calcium salt of D-glucaric acid, a sugar acid whose close relative glucuronic acid is what the liver attaches to compounds during phase-II conjugation — the step that makes them water-soluble enough to leave the body.

What makes this formula different?

It is short. There are 200 mg of DIM, 100 mg of calcium D-glucarate and 20 mg of sodium copper chlorophyllin per serving, with 12 mg of calcium arriving as part of the glucarate salt. Chlorophyllin is chlorophyll with its central magnesium replaced by copper.

Who is it for?

People who eat few cruciferous vegetables — broccoli, cabbage, kale, Brussels sprouts — and want that chemistry in a capsule instead. It suits people who prefer a short ingredient list. The capsule is hypromellose and nothing in it is animal-derived, so it fits vegetarian and vegan eating.

What should I know before taking it?

DIM can tint urine a darker yellow or orange, which is harmless. It is fat-soluble, so food with some fat in it helps absorption. Talk with your healthcare provider before use, especially if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, or if you take any prescription medicine, since liver conjugation is one route that clears medicines.
