About this supplement
What Is Calcium Plus?
Calcium from bone rather than from a mineral salt. MCHC, short for microcrystalline hydroxyapatite concentrate, is whole bovine bone milled fine, so the calcium arrives inside the same crystal it occupies in a skeleton. Malate salts and vitamin D3 fill out the capsule.
How It Works in the Body
Hydroxyapatite is calcium and phosphate locked into a repeating lattice, and MCHC brings both in the proportion bone itself holds. It carries the type I collagen that lattice is laid down on, along with the smaller bone proteins. Dicalcium malate and dimagnesium malate add calcium and magnesium bound to malate, an acid of the citric acid cycle. Vitamin D3 is what the intestine needs in order to carry calcium across its wall at all.
What It Supports
- Bone mineral: Calcium and phosphorus arrive as hydroxyapatite, the mineral of bone, and together they support bone health.
- A collagen scaffold: MCHC carries type I collagen, the protein framework bone mineral is laid down on.
- Calcium uptake: Vitamin D3 is required for the intestine to absorb calcium.
- Magnesium's share: Magnesium sits on the bone crystal surface and acts as a cofactor in hundreds of enzyme reactions.
Who It May Suit
People who would rather take calcium in the form bone itself holds, with phosphorus and collagen alongside it. MCHC comes from cattle, so this does not suit a vegetarian or vegan diet, or anyone avoiding bovine material.
Good To Know
MCHC comes in at 1 g per serving and microcrystalline hydroxyapatite at 600 mg per serving; the second is the mineral fraction of the first. Talk with your provider before use if you have kidney disease or a history of kidney stones, or if you take a thyroid medicine, an antibiotic or a bisphosphonate, since calcium binds all three in the gut.

FAQ
Common questions
What is it?
A bone-source calcium formula. MCHC, or microcrystalline hydroxyapatite concentrate, is whole bovine bone milled to a fine powder, so calcium, phosphorus and collagen come together in one material. Dicalcium malate, dimagnesium malate and vitamin D3 round out the capsule.
How does it work?
Hydroxyapatite is the crystal bone is made of: calcium and phosphate in a repeating lattice, laid down on type I collagen. MCHC brings the mineral and the protein together. Vitamin D3 is required for the intestine to absorb calcium, and the malate salts add more calcium and magnesium.
What makes this formula different?
Its calcium is not a simple salt. A serving carries MCHC at 1 g and microcrystalline hydroxyapatite at 600 mg, with 400 mg of calcium, 90 mg of phosphorus and 100 mg of magnesium per serving. Malate, a citric acid cycle acid, carries the rest.
Who is it for?
People who want calcium in the form bone itself holds, with phosphorus and collagen in the same capsule. Because MCHC is bovine, it does not suit vegetarians, vegans, or anyone avoiding bovine material for religious reasons. The shell itself is hypromellose.
What should I know before taking it?
Talk with your provider before use if you have kidney disease, a history of kidney stones, or if you take a thyroid medicine, an antibiotic or a bisphosphonate, since calcium binds all three in the gut. Vitamin D3 is fat-soluble and the body banks it, so mention any other vitamin D you take.
