Conjugated Linoleic Acid (CLA) is a fatty acid known to maintain a healthy metabolism and weight, and support cardiovascular and immune health.

About this supplement
What Is CLA?
CLA is conjugated linoleic acid, a small family of fatty acids that differ from ordinary linoleic acid only in where two double bonds sit. It occurs naturally in the milk and meat fat of grazing animals. The CLA here is made from safflower oil, 2,400 mg per serving.
How It Works in the Body
Linoleic acid is eighteen carbons long, with double bonds at carbons nine and twelve and a single CH2 group between them. Conjugated means those bonds have been moved next to each other, with nothing in between. That changes the shape of the chain and the way enzymes handle it. Two arrangements dominate: c9,t11, the one cattle produce and the reason it is called rumenic acid, and t10,c12. Safflower oil is unusually rich in linoleic acid, which makes it the natural starting material.
What It Supports
- A fat from dairy: Grazing animals' milk and meat fat carries CLA, and eating without dairy or beef runs lower in it.
- Two isomers: The safflower route yields c9,t11 and t10,c12 in roughly equal share.
- Membrane lipids: Absorbed CLA is built into the phospholipids of cell membranes, as other fatty acids are.
- Energy metabolism: Like other dietary fats, CLA feeds into beta-oxidation, so it plays a role in normal energy metabolism.
Who It May Suit
People who eat little dairy or beef from grazing animals and would rather get this fatty acid from a plant oil. A serving is three softgels. The shell is bovine gelatin, so this one does not fit vegetarian or vegan eating.
Good To Know
There is 3,000 mg of non-GMO safflower oil per serving, carrying 2,400 mg of CLA, and the softgel shell is tinted with organic caramel color. Talk with your healthcare provider before use if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, if you take a medicine for diabetes, since CLA has been associated with changes in insulin sensitivity, or if you take a blood thinner.

FAQ
Common questions
What is CLA?
Conjugated linoleic acid: a group of fatty acids the same length as linoleic acid, eighteen carbons, but with their two double bonds in different places. Bacteria in the rumen of cattle and sheep make it, which is why it turns up in dairy fat and in beef.
How does it work?
Conjugation is the whole difference. Moving the two double bonds next to each other changes the molecule's geometry, and enzymes that work on fatty acids do not handle the conjugated form the same way. Once absorbed, CLA is built into membrane phospholipids and can be oxidized for energy like other fats.
What makes this form different?
It is made from non-GMO safflower oil, the richest common source of linoleic acid, by alkaline isomerization, which shifts the double bonds and yields the c9,t11 and t10,c12 isomers in roughly equal share. There are 3,000 mg of the oil and 2,400 mg of CLA per serving.
Who is it for?
People who eat little dairy or grass-fed beef and want this fatty acid anyway, and anyone who prefers a plant-derived source of it. Worth knowing that the softgel itself is bovine gelatin, so the product as a whole is not vegetarian.
What should I know before taking it?
Concentrated fatty acid supplements can unsettle the stomach for some people. Talk with your healthcare provider before use if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, if you take a diabetes medicine, since CLA has been linked with changes in insulin sensitivity, or if you take a blood thinner.
